CAST IRON SCHOOL RADIATORS IN FOR RESTORATION

These were a batch of radiators that came into us via a building contractor who is re-decorating a few schools in London.Whilst the kids are on holiday.He has a designated time to allow all the work to be completed.

We have arranged collection of the radiators from site and they have gone through our rigorous radiator restoration process.

You can see the original state that they were in, all the rust coming through, the paint beginning to flake off and corrode in places.

We removed all the old fittings,as instructed by our customer.Then we flushed them out removing all the old silt that had built up over the years.We fitted new 1/2″ reducing bushes ready to accept new modern valves.We then blast cleaned them, primed them with an anti corrosive solvent based primer.Now they were ready for pressure testing.These 3 tested ok and so we were then ready to paint them with several layers of top coat. We used RAL 9016 Traffic White in a gloss.

As we are restoring this set of radiators we are restoring 6 squat 2 meter long radiators.They didn’t pressure test well and we found that we had to replace two cracked leg sections and put 4 radiators on a fernox loop, as the gaskets were weeping in places.This is done to reactivate the gaskets.
