Why we use Farrow and Ball for radiator restorations

When we’re restoring radiators, it’s the small details that make all the difference. That’s why we choose Farrow and Ball for radiator restorations. Their long-standing history and solid reputation align perfectly with the care and attention we put into every project.

A Bit of Farrow and Ball’s Story

Back in 1946, John Farrow and Richard Ball teamed up to make top-quality paints with rich pigments. They’ve stuck to those values over the years, and it really shows. These days, Farrow and Ball is a go-to for designers, architects, and homeowners who love their unique colours and eco-friendly methods. If you’re interested, you can find more on their website or the Wikipedia page.

Why We Choose Farrow and Ball for Radiator Restorations

At the heart of our restoration process is attention to detail, and Farrow and Ball’s paint delivers the perfect finishing touch. Here’s why we choose them for our radiators:

  • Unmatched Quality: Farrow and Ball’s paints are known for their durability and vibrant colour depth. Whether you’re looking for something modern or traditional, their extensive palette has something to suit every taste. In the case of our 38” 8 section Duchess Cast Iron Radiator, the rich, sophisticated Manor House Grey transforms a functional item into a statement piece.
  • Eco-Friendly and Low-VOC: When it comes to restoring radiators, it’s not just about how they look—it’s also making sure they’re safe for your home. Farrow and Ball paints, being water-based, means fewer harsh chemicals are involved. So, you can enjoy your newly restored radiator without needing to worry about emissions.
  • Perfect Finish for Cast Iron Radiators: Cast iron radiators really need a good finish to show off their charm and keep them protected. Farrow and Ball’s paint gives a smooth, durable coat that looks great and holds up over time, adding a bit more protection.

Bringing Your Restored Radiator to Life

Whether you’re restoring a period home or just adding some vintage character to a modern space, Farrow and Ball paints are a solid choice for radiator restoration. Their distinct colours, like Manor House Grey, really help our radiators stand out and become a key feature in any room.

Legacy of the Beeston Boiler Company: Prestigious Heating Solutions since 1923

The Beeston Boiler Company founded in the late 19th century, holds a unique place in the history of British engineering. Established in Beeston, Nottinghamshire, this pioneering company quickly gained a reputation for producing high-quality boilers and heating systems that set the standard for excellence. Over the decades, the Beeston Boiler Company became synonymous with prestige and innovation, making an indelible mark on the industry that resonates to this day.

A History of Excellence

From its inception, the Beeston Boiler Company was driven by a commitment to quality and craftsmanship. The company specialised in the production of cast iron boilers and radiators, both of which were known for their durability, efficiency, and timeless design. These products were not only built to last but also designed to provide the most efficient heating solutions for homes and businesses across the UK.

As central heating became more common in British homes during the early 20th century, the Beeston Boiler Company remained at the forefront of the industry. Their radiators, in particular, became a staple in many prestigious homes, thanks to their combination of functionality and aesthetic appeal. These cast iron radiators were more than just practical – they were often seen as a symbol of quality and refinement.

Why Beeston Radiators are Still Used Today

One of the reasons Beeston radiators continue to be used today is their exceptional craftsmanship. Unlike many modern radiators, which are often made from lighter materials, cast iron radiators offer superior heat retention. Once heated, a cast iron radiator will continue to emit warmth for a longer period, providing efficient and consistent heating.

Additionally, the classic design of Beeston radiators makes them a popular choice for restoration projects, especially in period properties where maintaining historical authenticity is key. The robust nature of cast iron means that, even after decades of use, many Beeston radiators can be restored to their former glory, making them a sustainable and enduring heating solution. Recently, we restored a beautiful 3-column Beeston radiator, showcasing the enduring appeal and quality of these iconic heating systems.

Restoring a Classic: Bringing Beeston Radiators Back to Life

Restoration specialists like us here at Blast Spray Polish play a crucial role in preserving the legacy of Beeston radiators. As members of The Guild of Master Craftsmen, we pride ourselves on upholding the highest standards of craftsmanship. Through expert techniques such as abrasive blasting, we carefully strip away years of paint, rust, and wear, revealing the original craftsmanship beneath. Unlike the traditional stripping and dipping method, abrasive blasting ensures a more precise restoration, preserving the integrity of the cast iron.

This process not only revives the appearance of these classic radiators but also ensures they continue to function efficiently for many years to come. The meticulous restoration work performed by our team ensures that these beautiful, historic radiators remain in use, providing modern homes with a touch of vintage elegance. By combining traditional craftsmanship with modern restoration techniques, these radiators are not only preserved but also brought back to life, maintaining their prestigious reputation for years to come.

To further appreciate the history and craftsmanship behind Beeston products, we are excited to share an original scanned manual from the Beeston Boiler Company. This rare piece of documentation offers a fascinating glimpse into the design, engineering, and care instructions for these iconic heating systems. A gallery featuring the manual is included at the end of this article, providing enthusiasts and homeowners with an authentic connection to the past.

Conclusion

The Beeston Boiler Company’s contribution to the heating industry is undeniable. Their commitment to quality and innovation ensured their products stood the test of time, and today, Beeston radiators remain a symbol of British engineering excellence. With the help of restoration specialists like Blast Spray Polish, these iconic radiators continue to heat homes while preserving a piece of history. The Beeston legacy lives on, not just in their original products but in the careful restoration and continued use of these enduring symbols of craftsmanship.

Packaging radiators

We are highly skilled in manoeuvring very heavy cast iron radiators. It’s what we have done for years! We don’t ever get complacent.

We are very aware that each individual radiator that comes to us for restoration is a very important part of someone’s home interior.

So every radiator gets our full attention, careful handling and our expertise during every part of the restoration process through to packaging them ready for delivery or collection.

After each radiator has been restored and either spray painted or hand polished, we wrap them up in shrink wrap, and then finally wrap them with a thick layer of bubble wrap. This protects the surface of the restored radiators.Keeping them free from dust and damage. They are then suitable for upright travel.

A garden bench brought back to life!

A customer had brought in an old garden bench that he had had for many years and had a sentimental connection with. We striped it down removed all the old slats that had rotten away and replaced them. Restoring the cast iron arms by blasting the metal removing the old flaking paint and then re-coating it ready for a brand new lease of life.
